Yesterday we visited the Shanxi museum. It is a really nice museum. THere are many antiquities and 2000+ year old items of jade and porcelain and lots of old money. China was the first place to have organized money and it started as mere shells and worked it's way up from there which was very interesting to see. They have several old archaeological digs in this province so there are a lot of relics from these digs on display here. All three families who are here this week were together at the museum and the kids had a good time. Liam slept in his stroller for the first few floors and then was up and ready to run around. He got to spen some time with one of his friends who was adopted from his same orphanage. She is blind and talks about him. He goes up and holds her hand and then she says "ni Hao Dong Dong" She told her mom Dong Dong was from Bejing (she was in a foster home there) but according to the orphanage director he was not there with her. They did spend time together I'm sure during their first few months in the orphanage and then a long bus ride from Yungchen city on Monday prior to meeting us. She is a very sweet girl.
We walked back to the local market to help Rong Rong's mom find a stroller and we visited the store with the paper cuttings again. THey also have "shadow puppets" there which is a chinese art form sort of like puppets that are flat. THese puppets are like paper dolls made of animal hides and then painted. For the show, the artist sits behind a white screen and manipulates the puppets to put on a show. We also read an article about a man who travels around the world putting on his puppet shows. In old times they depicted some of the major Chinese folktales through these puppet shows. THere were some very old puppets on display at the museum also.
Liam did better with his bath tonight and actually got mad when it was time to get out of the tub and kept wanting to get back in!
He loves to go to the restaurant downstairs at the hotel. Everytime we get off the elevator he heads straight for the restaurant and pitches a fit if we don't go in to eat! He usually makes faces and smiles at the waitresses. He is already a charmer.
I am not sure what is going on with my computer here and I have had to re-set and then run the virus several times. Some have said they are not able to see the pictures. I was planning on posting pictures on dropshot also, but have not been able to get on that website.
Hopefully tomorrow when we get to Shanghai this will be better. We are staying in the room and mostly resting today. The food has gotten to my intestinal tract a little and we probably will be out and about next week more since we will be with a larger group and there is more to do in Shanghai. We will leave tomorrow at 3pm for Shanghai and try to post once we make it there. TOmorrow will be spent trying to pack and get to the airport and restrian Liam for the 2 1/1 hr plane ride. It will give us some idea how he will do on that long trip home, so I hope he tolerates the trip.
More later, hopefully the pics come through!
